What it is
Vaginal Rejuvenation Laser is a non-surgical treatment that uses a fractional laser — typically a fractional CO2 or Erbium laser — delivered through a probe into the vaginal canal. It is offered at Klinik Amisi as part of our intimacy pillar to address selected concerns such as post-menopausal vaginal dryness, post-natal vaginal laxity, discomfort during intercourse linked to tissue changes, and mild stress urinary incontinence.
The treatment is performed in a private clinical setting by trained doctors. It is intended for carefully selected candidates after a proper medical consultation, and it is not a substitute for diagnosis and management of underlying gynaecological conditions. A clinical consultation is required before the first session so that our doctor can review your symptoms, take a history, perform any necessary examination and discuss whether vaginal laser is suitable for you.
It is also important to be aware that this is an evolving area of medicine. Evidence is still developing, regulators have cautioned against unsubstantiated claims, and individual results vary. Our team will go through the current evidence base and realistic expectations with you as part of informed consent.
How it works
The laser handpiece delivers controlled fractional energy to the vaginal mucosa in a pattern designed to create very small, controlled micro-zones of thermal effect while leaving surrounding tissue intact. This is intended to trigger the body’s natural healing response, which over time may support new collagen formation, improved tissue thickness, enhanced elasticity and improved local blood supply.
In suitable candidates, this combined effect may help with concerns such as dryness, mild laxity and discomfort. The laser does not deliver hormones and works through a localised tissue response rather than a systemic mechanism.
What to expect
Before your treatment
Your first visit includes a consultation with our doctor, a review of your medical and gynaecological history and an internal examination if appropriate. An up-to-date Pap smear and clearance for any active vaginal, vulval or cervical infection is generally required. Please tell us if you are or could be pregnant, if you have had recent vaginal surgery, or if you have any abnormal bleeding or unexplained pelvic pain.
During the session
You will be positioned similarly to a routine gynaecological examination. The laser handpiece is gently inserted into the vaginal canal and slowly rotated to deliver energy in a 360-degree pattern. Most patients describe a mild warming or vibrating sensation rather than pain, and topical anaesthesia is usually not required. The active part of the procedure typically takes 5 to 15 minutes.
After your treatment
You can usually leave the clinic immediately and return to most daily activities. We ask patients to avoid sexual intercourse, tampons, swimming and hot tubs for approximately 5 to 7 days, and to avoid hot baths, vigorous exercise and sauna for at least 48 hours. Mild discharge or light spotting for 1 to 2 days is common and generally settles on its own.
Recovery and downtime
Vaginal Rejuvenation Laser is considered a low-downtime treatment for most patients. There is no surgical incision and no general anaesthesia, and most patients return to work and gentle daily activities the same day. Mild local sensitivity, light discharge or short-lived cramping in the first 24 to 48 hours is the most commonly reported experience. Anything beyond this — heavier bleeding, fever, increasing pain, abnormal discharge or signs of infection — should be reported to the clinic promptly. Results vary between individuals and typically continue to evolve for several weeks after each session.
Who is this for
Vaginal Rejuvenation Laser is typically considered for women experiencing specific concerns that have been assessed by a doctor, where a non-surgical option is appropriate and where realistic expectations can be discussed.
You may be a candidate if you:
- Are post-menopausal with symptoms of vaginal dryness or atrophy
- Are at least 3 months post-vaginal-delivery and have been cleared by your obstetrician
- Have mild stress urinary incontinence and want to explore non-surgical options
- Experience discomfort during intercourse linked to tissue changes (and other causes have been ruled out)
- Cannot or prefer not to use systemic hormone therapy
- Understand that results vary, are not guaranteed, and that maintenance may be needed
Considerations and contraindications
Vaginal Rejuvenation Laser is not suitable during pregnancy or while actively trying to conceive. It is also not appropriate for women with active vaginal, vulval or cervical infection, undiagnosed vaginal or cervical lesions, known or suspected gynaecological cancer, or active urinary tract infection (which should be treated first). Patients with severe uterovaginal prolapse may need to be assessed for surgical options instead. Recent vaginal surgery, an abnormal recent Pap smear, or uncontrolled diabetes are situations requiring individual review. Always disclose your full medical and gynaecological history at consultation. Our doctor will confirm whether the treatment is appropriate for you and ensure that you have given full informed consent before any session.
